Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Miami Swim

Where do I begin? The location is Miami, FL. The event is Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2012. My best friend Cara and I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at the event! Both Cara and I had never visited Miami before and therefore, did not know what to expect. I would not be lying if I said the most familiar I was with Miami was Will Smith's "Miami" video.
The first night we were there, we had the pleasure of attending the Diesel 2012 show. Below is a video of the final walk through from Diesel.

We were fortunate enough to be able to go into a few shows. HANDS DOWN, my favorite show was Mara Hoffman. The swim collection was full of neon colored tribal prints and high-waisted bottoms! I would wear every swimsuit that walked down that runway. Hair= fishtail braids= perfection. Video below!

DC Empanadas: Food Truck #3

My good (and Cuban) friend Briana Castro has highly recommended we visit DC Empanadas. Vee and I arrived at the truck midday with two very empty stomachs. We each ordered one Traditional (shredded beef, spanish olives, hard boiled eggs, raisins, onions, and seasoning) and one Tio Shawn (rice, black beans, cilantro, chipotle peppers, onions, and monterey jack cheese). We couldn't resist the Bad-Ass (buffalo chicken, bleu cheese) so we ordered that one to split. We both agreed that the Traditional was, hand's down, the best empanada! The shredded beef was juicy and cooked to perfection. Thank you Briana for steering us in the right direction for empanadas!

Celebrity Style: Camilla Belle

She may not be the best actress (10,000 B.C. anyone?) but DAMN can the girl dress. She takes chances and has FUN with her red carpet style, which I cannot applaud enough. Here are some of my favorites

My favorite one has got to be the last one: Blue marble-y peacock printed McQueen. It's truly a work of art and not everyone would be confident enought to pull it off. Cheers to you, Camilla. Looking forward to your next moment!

Solar Crêpes: Food Truck #2

Our next culinary experience took place outside the Ballston metro station in Arlington, Virginia. Among the five or six food trucks outside the metro, the hot pink truck with drawings of beret-wearing chickens on it immediately caught our attention. The name of the truck is Solar Crêpes, a food truck crêperie specializing in locally grown, farm-to-table food. We ordered two savory crêpes. I ordered a crêpe with fresh smoked salmon, spinach, dill, and a savory sauce. Vee ordered the roasted chicken with herbs, cheese, spinach, and a balsamic reduction. Both crêpes were made with buckwheat. Honestly, the crêpes at Solar Crêpes left a little bit to be desired. The buckwheat crêpes were a little heavy. The lack of filling in both crêpes contributed to the "bready-ness" of the crêpe, and the way they were folded (traditional though it may have been) was hard to eat and caused all of the filling to sink to the bottom, leaving you with a mouthful of buckwheat on top and a soggy bottom. On a good note, my salmon was not overcooked. I don't know if we will be back for savory crêpes, but we are eager to try their sweet crêpes!
